Established in 2020, Filantro First Exports Limited is a new manufacturer of crosslapped spunlace fabric using advanced technologies, best practices and quality materials. Based in Sonipat, Haryana, India, the company began production in September 2023. The facility is the first-of-its-kind manufacturer in India and can produce 15,000 metric tons 3.2 meter-wide fabric .

“Considering factors like new innovative solutions, export opportunities, infrastructural developments and government initiatives, the future growth of the technical textiles and nonwovens segment in the Indian market appears promising,” says Tanyushvi Garg, vice president – Sales and Marketing, Filantro.

Garg says spunlace nonwoven fabrics are currently being imported in huge quantities from countries like China and Vietnam. Filantro’s vision is to not only make India self-sufficient, but also become the biggest exporter in the nonwovens industry.

Filantro’s crosslapped spunlace roll goods are available in multiple thicknesses with a range of 30-150 gsm. The company can produce nonwovens using viscose, PET, cotton, Tencel, PP and PLA in staple fibers that are carded and hydroentangled providing a soft and lofty material.

Filantro is introducing innovations for spunlace fabrics the hospitality, food and beverage, disposable garments, automotive and synthetic leather industries. Additionally, the company is introducing world-class innovative solutions for the medical, hygiene and cosmetics industries. “All of these markets are growing in India and have a CAGR of 4% and above,” Garg says.

Filantro plans to supply spunlace nonwovens globally as its vision is to become a world leader in spunlace nonwoven production and be the most value-added partner for its clients.

“Our strategy for expansion is to penetrate the market by increasing the company’s existing markets by attracting new customers or encouraging existing customers to buy more,” Garg explains. “We have already completed the planning to set up another line within our current facility and double our production to develop new markets all over the world.”

Environmental sustainability is also a priority for Filantro. Its state-of-the-art facility has been designed to process natural fibers, like viscose and bamboo fiber, replacing synthetic fibers like polypropylene. Additionally, Filantro has focused on reducing its impact on the planet. “Our initiatives range from leveraging the power of the sun to providing safe water to communities around the world,” Garg says. “Our purchase of privately-owned solar energy panels in Sonepat allows the company to reduce pollution while providing a renewable, economical alternative to electricity.”

The company also continues to seek out renewable energy options with the goal of sourcing 100% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2028.

Garg says the nonwovens industry is versatile, and therefore has a lot of opportunities for expansion. “The industry is constantly evolving with ongoing research and development to create new materials, improve existing ones and discover novel applications. Also, the industry has a focus on developing sustainable nonwovens by using biodegradable materials and improving recycling processes. This is why the industry has a very promising future,” she says.

Additionally, with growing consumerism in India and with an increase in disposable income, Filantro expects the Indian nonwovens industry to expand exponentially in the coming years. “Increased awareness about health and hygiene has only fueled this demand. We are really looking forward for this new venture,” Garg concludes.
