Bringing together the companies and entrepreneurs working in the North African disposable hygiene products was the goal of GDM’s recent symposium, held June 17 at the Palmeraie Gold Palace in Morroco. Surrounded by palms and swimming pools and the perfumes of local spices,11 leading African companies and 11 leading raw material and equipment suppliers attended the first-ever event. Throughout the day, 11 speakers presented the latest innovations in raw materials and processes to make diapers for babies, sanitary napkins and incontinence products which meet the needs of this continually expanding market and also make it profitable for producers and new investors who wish to set up, consolidate or diversify their business. The three presentations given by Carlos Richer hygiene industry consultant and founder of the Disposable Diaper net stimulated great interest, especially one about product trends, analysis of the African markets, their needs and the important potential growth this sector will have on this continent in the future. Equally interesting were presentations given by our partners: BASF, Buckeye, ExxonMobil Chemical, Exten, Henkel, Huhtamaki, Invista, Magis, Nordson, Sandvik, Texsus. All the presentations were translated simultaneously into French and English. The partners at the symposium were given the chance to have toptable positions outside the congress hall to present their innovations and business proposals. Thanks to them that the event went so successfully. The day drew to a close with a networking section followed by dinner during which everyone present was able, between one sip of good wine and the variety ofdelicious food, to consolidate the day in a totally relaxing atmosphere. Feedback on the symposium was positive with lots of constructive comments. GDM’spartners, satisfied with the event outcome, have confirmed their plans to attend the next symposium GDM organizes. More details on the next event will be found on www.gdm-spa.com once they are confirmed.
