Stitchbonded nonowoven complies with new flammability requirements in New York and California's AB2998 chemical restrictions

Precision Textiles, a leading FR solutions provider to the mattress industry, has introduced a patent-pending liquid crystal-polymer (LCP)-fortified fire-resistant filler cloth. The stitchbonded nonwoven is engineered to comply with the upcoming 2026 New York flammability requirements and California’s AB2998 chemical restrictions. The next-generation bottom-panel barrier, part of the company’s Endure product line, withstands the extreme pressure of roll-packed mattress manufacturing while delivering elevated fire resistance to help its customers succeed in a fast-paced market.
Engineered around LCP technology, traditionally used in aerospace, protective gear and other high-stress industrial applications, this breakthrough offers exceptional tensile strength, enhanced fire resistance and improved structural stability to mattress components. By incorporating LCP into the filler cloth, Precision Textiles has directly addressed the demanding challenges of roll-packed mattress production and shipping.
“Based on discussions with our customers, we recognized the need for a bottom panel that can truly stand up to today’s roll-packed realities,” says Gerry Welkley, national sales manager of Precision Textiles. “We engineered this material from the fiber level up to meet those demands. It’s a highly reliable, production-friendly solution for manufacturers who want stronger protection without adding complexity to their line.”
The patent-pending LCP-Fortified Filler Cloth represents a major advancement in FR barrier technology for the mattress industry. It is engineered with a proprietary blend of high-performance fibers and a specialized char-forming finish, explicitly designed to withstand the demands and mechanical stress of hybrid roll-packed mattress constructions while maintaining structure and heat stability under extreme compression.
Designed for roll-packed mattresses, the filler cloth delivers exceptional tensile and tear strength, capable of withstanding the torque generated by compressed, rolled and boxed pocket coil hybrid mattresses. Its char shield combines LCP fibers and a micro-clay coating to form a dense, crack-free char layer that prevents molten foam from dripping through, keeping peak heat release under 200 kW in 16 CFR 1633 testing. Additionally, the material exhibits low thermal shrinkage, ensuring bottom seams remain intact after heat exposure.
The solution is fully compliant with the upcoming 2026 New York flammability requirements and current California AB 2998, ensuring manufacturers have a bottom-panel barrier that meets evolving state-level safety and chemical-restriction standards.
