As the entry in service of its newest wetlaid line approaches, Aralar has recently inaugurated a new latest-generation warehouse. Designed to enhance service standards to its global wetlaid paper customer base, and with an area of more than 3,000 square meters, the new facility works with a robotic system and has capacity to store more than 10,000 tons of product. With storage organized in 15 levels, the building allows for more than 15,000 rolls of paper to be stored simultaneously.

As part of its commitment to the environment of Amezketa, the area in Spain where its plant is located, the project includes an emergency deposit located 8 meters underground just below the warehouse itself. With a capacity for 1,200 m3, the deposit will work as an emergency back-up in case of any malfunction in its in-house water treatment station.

Aralar expects to start operating its latest machine, PM5, by the end of 2020. With an annual production capacity of more than 20,000 tons, the state-of-the-art line is considered to be the most advanced production of wetlaid paper globally. The investment will focus on the production of cellulosic substrate for biodegradable, flushable baby wipes. The demand for this material is forecast to increase exponentially in the coming years in the context of the sustainability drive affecting the wet wipes industry.

Aralar has been making cellulosic substrates since 1937. A global leader in the supply of technical papers for flexible packaging, the firm was at the forefront in the introduction of cellulosic material for flushable wet wipes. PM5 is expected to extend that position to the baby wipe as well as other segments.
