CTK Bio has developed a sustainable superabsorbent technology that delivers improved performance while addressing key environmental challenges in the personal hygiene market. The innovation, protected by two newly filed patent applications, demonstrates superior absorption and fluid retention compared to conventional superabsorbent materials used in hygiene products.

Developed in collaboration with the University of Waterloo, the patented hydrogel platform showed improved absorbency in both water and saline environments, strong fluid retention under load and stable performance under conditions relevant to real-world hygiene applications. These metrics are critical for products such as diapers, feminine hygiene products and adult incontinence solutions, where consistent performance directly impacts user experience.

In parallel with performance gains, the technology was developed with sustainability as a core design objective. Laboratory evaluations indicate favorable biodegradation behavior and biocompatibility, supporting its suitability for consumer-facing hygiene products and aligning with increasing regulatory and market demand for lower-impact materials.

As the global hygiene industry seeks to transition away from petroleum-based absorbents, CTK Bio’s breakthrough positions the company with a protected, scalable technology platform that combines performance, sustainability, and commercial relevance.

CTK Bio is advancing the technology toward scale-up and engagement with industry partners as part of its broader strategy to commercialize sustainable biomaterial solutions.
