Editorial Guidelines

Nonwovens Industry welcomes opinion pieces, blog posts, and feature articles covering the full spectrum of the nonwovens supply chain.

Typical topics include (but aren’t limited to): fibers and polymers; spunbond, meltblown, carded and air-laid processes; hygiene and wipes; medical and protective apparel; filtration and geotextiles; sustainability and circularity; converting and packaging; performance testing/standards; machinery and automation; market trends and regulatory updates.

1) Pitch first (quick email)

Please email a brief summary/abstract of your proposed contribution to kmcintyre@rodmanmedia.com.

  • Opinion pieces (print/online): 1–2 sentence summary.
  • Technical/features: 200–300 words (bullet points welcome).
  • Blog posts: You may submit the full draft directly via email.

2) Write conversationally (not like a journal article)

We encourage depth and detail, but please use a clear, magazine-style voice (active, concise). Avoid academic structuring (e.g., “Abstract,” “Methods,” “Results” headings)—we’ll reformat if needed.

3) Originality & exclusivity

Submissions must be original and not published elsewhere in the same form. If you’re exploring a similar topic in other outlets, ensure your manuscript for Nonwovens Industry is substantially different.

4) Permissions & clearance

If your article is adapted from a conference presentation/webinar, secure written permission from the organizer before submitting.

5) Length guidance

  • Op-ed (1 page): ~800 words
  • Op-ed (2 pages): ~1,600 words
  • Feature/technical article: 2,000+ words (recommended minimum)
  • Online opinion/blog: 500+ words

6) File formats

  • Text: Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
  • Tables: Microsoft Excel (.xls or .xlsx)

7) Graphics (aim for one per ~700 words)

Acceptable assets include high-resolution photos, charts, tables, bar graphs, and sidebars. For technical features, please include author headshots and short bios.
Important:

  • Do not embed images inside Word files. Send original files separately.
  • Do not upscale low-resolution images or pull small web graphics; they won’t reproduce well in print.
  • For dense technical figures/diagrams, provide the largest, highest-resolution versions available to enable optimal print sizing.

8) Be objective and nonpromotional

Articles should inform and educate, not advertise. Avoid brand-forward language or product promotion; discussion of companies/technologies must be balanced and neutral.

9) Use American English

Please follow American spelling and style conventions.

10) Define acronyms on first use

Spell out each term the first time it appears, followed by the acronym in parentheses (e.g., spunbond/meltblown (SMB)).

11) Aim for a fresh voice

We’ll collaborate through edits, but please avoid clichés and strive for clear, memorable writing.

All accepted manuscripts are edited for clarity, style, and length. You’ll have an opportunity to review edits prior to publication.
